The Evolution of Rallying Vol. 2
In 26 action-packed chapters, the film tells the exciting story of the WRC from the first Makes World Champion in 1973, Renault Alpine, to the current Makes Champion, VW Polo R, and the first Driver World Champion, Björn Waldegard, who was buried just this year, through to the new rally virtuoso Sébastien Ogier.
The film also highlights a few autobiographical facts, with the writer/director Helmut Deimel stepping in front of his camera to share some his own anecdotes. The film showcases the huge diversity of car brands, the technological solutions and the wide range of exquisite music blaring from the engines.
On top of this are the wonderful, often quite wacky fans who flock from near and far to witness the action. One chapter underlines the incredible feats of the mechanics. How they breathed new life into the battered cars through day and night, in all weather, before hurtling off in their own very special kind of race to make it to the next service point in time.
